This article that I found on science daily, explains that human emissions into the atmosphere have affected the production of lightning. The lightning increases the regional ozone and other gases. The burning of fossil fuels produces nitrogen oxides, which increase the amount of ozone in the atmosphere. As the article states, "during the summer months, lightning activity increases NOx by as much as 90 percent and ozone by more than 30 percent." The lightning and nitrogen oxide in our atmosphere dramatically change the ozone. I thought this article was interesting because I never knew that lightning increases nitrogen oxide, which affects the ozone.
