Ear Infections and Air Pollution

It is understandably difficult to know all the side effects of a phenomenon. When it comes to air pollution, I don't think that ear infections were on anyone's list. According to the following link, http://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/ear-infection/news/20091007/air-quality-up-ear-infections-down?src=RSS_PUBLIC, recent studies have shown that federal pollution laws have drastically lessened the amount of ear infections children get. The study, incorporating figures gained from over 125,000 children between 1997 and 2007, measured the amount of ear infections compared to the levels of carbon monoxide, nitrous oxide, sulfur dioxide, and particulate matter in the air. The results have shown a clear lessening of the amount of ear infections children get in a year while exposed to cleaner air. I find this information crucial to the environmental movement, for any new discoveries forcing the issue of cleaning the planet are an equal aid to preserving our home and our livelihood. The fact that pollution causes ear infections is a particularly nasty side effect of air pollution, being so undercover and hidden from common knowledge. This gain of awareness is another influential step to a healthier future with no side effects, obvious or obscure.
