Chocolate May Protect Skin from UV Rays

Everyone knows chocolate is good for the soul. Many studies have revealed its benefits to heart health and its ability to reduce stress. But who knew this sweet treat could combat UV rays? Cocoa beans are rich in a substance called "flavanols" which exhibit properties much like antioxidants. Chocolate with higher levels of flavanols provide a better defense against sunburn and in turn can reduce the risk of developing wrinkles due to sun damage. Dark chocolate has many additional benefits including reducing the risk of blood clots, lowering blood pressure, preventing premature births, protecting against bowel cancer and cutting down the risk of dementia. So, next time you're preparing for a trip to the beach, make sure to include a box of this surprisingly propitious indulgence.
