Protective Shells for Cells

A new discovery was made at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta. Who knew that the knowledge of chemistry could help the existence of a cell. The original shells on the cells were very weak permeable shells and are also hard to assemble. They can not survive for very long. But the interesting thing is that a simple change in bond can fix this problem.  The original shell was made up of  mainly ionic bond. Simply by changing the bonds to hydrogen bonds the shell becomes stronger.  It is very interesting how such a simple thing as having the right bond is so crucial to the make up of these cells. I believe that if scientists discover more findings that connect chemistry and biology, it can help many people. Understanding the connections between chemistry and biology can be a hard thing to do, but once it is understood, it can be helpful.
