Scientists have been working methods to refine people's ability to recall the memories that start to fade over time. Unfortunately, this research is still in its early stages and has to be administered directly to the brain. Currently the research is being conducted on rats. The rat's memories are manipulated to forget or recall the nausea they feel from saccharine and salty liquids by injecting a viral protein called kinase M zeta. This memory recall may only be effective for the association of taste and unpleasant experiences. Although the abilities of this protein remain unclear, there is hope that this research may eventually improve the quality of life for people suffering from illness that effect memory such as amnesia.

I found this article interesting for a few reasons. One of the reasons I found this interesting is because if this research is proven it could help advance more research to helping cure Alzheimer's disease and amnesia. Another reason I found this article interesting is because the memory recall is for unpleasant experiences and taste. I understand the taste recall but I do not understand the unpleasant experiences-that seems like something someone would want to forget the most!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how scientists can put the ability to make additional copies of genes of virus into practice
