Reducing car emissions

The Institution of Integrated Catalysis has experimented with an artificial catalyst that is similar to bacterial enzymes. The artificial catalyst has metal atoms that can break down nitric oxide, a main greenhouse gas, which is released by car emissions. These researchers have created a new catalyst that emits a small amount of nitrous oxide and mostly water and atmospheric nitrogen. Europe has already begun to use this catalyst within their cars in order to experiment how feasible this catalyst will be to all automobiles. The possibility that a new catalyst could be installed into automobiles and only require ammonia to function could have the ability to significantly decrease carbon emissions.
