Scientists in Sweden recently found
a new application for phototherapy. Phototherapy is the intentional shooting of
light (photons or a laser) at the desired treatment area. This treatment involves
shooting a laser at the affected area the catch is this time, it is being used
for the treatment of devastating neurological diseases. Proteins aggregate in
people that suffer from Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. This action causes the
devastating affects of the disease.
The research group has found that
using light therapy (phototherapy) can remove these protein masses, and
possibly remove the malformations without impacting the surrounding tissues.
The treatments now to remove the masses involve major surgery and toxic
chemicals that damage surrounding tissues. The chemistry behind this involves
disrupting the IMFs of the proteins to break them up. When these masses aren’t
broken up they can cause many issues with the way that the cell functions. Using
this technique is an amazing opportunity to help people suffering from these
diseases in a less invasive manner. Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s are diseases
that affect not only those who have it but their loved ones. Finding a “cure”
for this is amazing.

I found your article very intriguing. I always find it amazing when new technology is created to help find cures. I also learned about current treatments for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease that I did not know about. I really liked your post, it was very insightful.
