Fluorine is used commonly in our world these days, such as in our toothpastes. However, no one really knows where the fluorine comes from. In the science world, the most authoritative theory is that the fluorine is formed in some stars which are heavier than the sun and are actually parts of the material that are used to form the sun. The scientists are still trying to prove this theory by comparing stars formed in different times with the amount of fluorine that exists during that time, and also by calculating how much of each element the star contains by analyzing how much light the star absorbed, and the list goes on.
I found this article interesting because the toothpaste is one of the most common things we use in our daily life, and I have never given much thought about the elements inside the toothpaste. The title of this article caught my eye when I was skimming through all those chemistry sites, and after reading this article, I was amazed that the fluorine in our toothpaste actually comes from something even older than the sun, and I have always loved the chemistry that exists in our daily life.
