First, let’s start with understanding the concept of what a terahertz absorption spectroscopy is. A terahertz absorption spectroscopy is a machine that graphically displays the detection of any property of matter with the electromagnetic fields by using the frequency range between gigahertz and terahertz. Why does this definition matter? This system has enabled scientists to detect the development of water molecules that surround biomolecules. Biomolecules are molecules that are utilized and produced by living organisms, an example of which is proteins. Therefore, this machine has allowed scientists to prove proteins, to some extent, influence the surrounding water molecules. Through this process, the scientists have demonstrated how the dynamic of water molecules around the center proteins could possibly be a binding partner with the water solvent. From this demonstration scientists found evidence that binding partners could form a hydration funnel. According to this mechanism, the biomolecules are able to reject or accept a binding partner. This process occurs when water molecules identify a biomolecule and compete with each other to bind to it.
