I read an article about the possibility of the supply helium running out. Because helium has a lower density than air, it causes large balloons to float. The Macy’s day parade on Thanksgiving uses the same amount of helium that could fill more than one hundred thousand party balloons. Scientists are beginning to think that this is a waste because it is not a renewable resource, and after it is used in the balloons it is released into the atmosphere and lost, making them wonder if we will run out of helium eventually. Because it is so light, the gravity of the Earth cannot contain it all, so very little is present. More than a third of the world’s helium comes from the Federal Helium Reserve. The issue is not the amount of helium under the earth’s surface, but how to obtain it. Yet, it is still used for things like balloons and other scientific reasons. Therefore, instead of stopping the use of helium, we should find a way to recycle it. I agree that it is important to find a way to reuse this resource. Even though there will always be an abundant supply of Helium, does not mean we will always be able to tap into it. But I also do not think we should stop using it since we do have access to it and it is used by many scientists. So, I think we should use it and reuse it.
