Custom-Designed Microscopic Particles Self-Assemble in Liquid Crystal

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/11/091125094317.htm

This article is about the new way that chemists and physicists have been able to succeed in controlling custom microparticles and making them interact and self-assemble in a liquid crystal. This is very interesting to me because it means that in years to come, they might be able to learn how to assemble the microparticles in certain configurations enabling a significant use in technology and science. If they figure out how to reenact this assembly with larger particles to have use in photonics etc. This is another new discovery that advances science in a small way to make a larger change.
