It is well known that vitamin C is an essential nutrient. Vitamin C helps human body to heal wounds and to make collagen that makes skin, blood vessels and so forth. People, however, forget seriousness of vitamin C deficiency because it doesn't appear much to people on these days who eat regular diet. Apart from the problems that vitamin C deficiency can cause, such as scurvy, the recent studies at University of Copenhagen seems to add more problems. The Faculty of Life Sciences at University of Copenhagen tested the guinea pigs to see how vitamin C deficiency affects the new-born guinea pigs. The results showed that the new-born guinea pigs that had deficiency of vitamin C had 30 percent less hippocampal neurons and much worse memory than the other that had enough vitamins C. Professor Jens Lykkesfeldt questioned that this vitamin C deficiency might affect new-born babies as well. The article also shows the statistics related to vitamin C deficiency.
