The X Prize

http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=ocean-ph-acid-x-prize

It is known that dissolving carbon dioxide in water with salt increases acidity. Unfortunately, this situation is occurring nowadays with carbon dioxide as one of the greenhouse gases level rising due to natural carbon circulation on Earth and human activities like the usage of fossil fuel for transportation and electricity. In addition to this problem it is also expensive to test the acidity of seawater which makes it even more difficult to measure how much worse this is going to get. So due to this concern in the world this new prize, X PRIZE, was created to reward to those inventors who can develop a device that can measure the acidity cheaper and more accurately. Researchers are very excited to find a cheaper sensor to enhance their research on ocean acidification. I thought this article was interesting because I was not aware of the fact that increasing carbon dioxide is affecting the seawater and that the acidity is rising which is harmful in every way.
