Ion Attraction Cartoon

This cartoon address the idea that ions can be attracted to each other. In the cartoon, the boys are portrayed at ions such a K+, Na+, Li+, Rb+, and Cs+. All of these are positive ions known as cations. The girls in are portrayed as Br-, F-, and Cl-. All of these are negative ions known as anions. All of the cations are positively charged because they are one less electron than the number of protons in the ion and all of the anions are negative because they have on more electron than the number or protons in the ion. Due to this, the extra electron from the anion will be attracted towards the cation causing them the form ionic bonds. This is why the boys, or cations, are attracted toward the girls, anions in the cartoon.
