Greenhouse Gases and Permanent Carbon Dioxide Sequestration

Scientists have been experimenting on an abandoned mineral mine near Stanford University to try to permanently lock greenhouse gases deep down in the Earth.  This mine contains large amounts of pure magnesium carbonate made from carbon dioxide and magnesium.  By injecting the liquid form of carbon dioxide from pollution from smoke stacks into these minerals, this process could potentially contain air pollution.

This caught my eye since it is a different alternative to containing greenhouse gases that is not necessarily green alternative.  It does have a risk that the carbon dioxide could leak out of this magnesite mine, but remains a very interesting idea to pursue.
