Rainbow Pumpkin

So since Halloween is coming up, I thought this party trick will come in handy for any party! The ingredients here are very simple: only a Jack-o-lantern, hand sanitizer, roach killer, and heet fuel treatment are needed. Yet, what you can achieve with them will be such an awesome vision!

Basically, all you need to do is just to pour roach killer and heet fuel treatment into the lantern, coat the lantern surface with the hand sanitizer and burn them on a fire-proof surface. Easy peasy! Roach killer, which contains boric acid, and heet fuel treatment  which contains methanol will burn inside the lantern to gives off green and blue flames respectively. The pumpkin itself has sodium, which also reacts with oxygen under heat to produce yellow light. Then hand sanitizer, which is ethanol, will keep all of those colorants on the  surface of the pumpkin for better effects. Combine all of these thing together and voila, have yourself a rainbow Jack-o-lantern for Halloween.

  1. Wow! This is a fun way to demonstrate the colors of the flames of different chemicals. However, I'd be worried about the safety of this project- it would definitely have to be done carefully in a controlled environment. I wonder if burning the chemicals would release anything toxic into the surrounding air?
