Around the year 1900, world’s population was around 1.6 billion but in the year 2000 it was around 6.1 billion. The population growth was caused by two young Germans, Fritz Haber and Carl Bosch, who discovered a process that can fix nitrogen. Around the early 1900's, the world was suffering from a lack of food due to the dwindling supply of fertilization. Countries like Chile or Peru were not producing enough fertilizer, so food could not be produced to maintain world's population. Therefore, Fritz Haber and Carl Bosch decided to create a fertilizer that is known today as the fixed fertilizer. The N₂ is subjected to high pressures and temperatures in order to create ammonia. Ammonia is the base for synthetic nitrogen fertilizers. Although the Haber-Bosch process has benefited millions over the years, in the beginning, the process provided the nitrogen needed in different types of ammunition. Therefore extending World War 1 and playing a fact in the development of World War 2.
